Guardians of the Galaxy

SYNOPSIS:
Brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits–Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon; Groot, a tree-like humanoid; the deadly and enigmatic Gamora; and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Quill discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand–with the galaxy’s fate in the balance.

GOTGalaxyI was a bit worried about this film.  The trailer did it no favours, and it was looking like it was going to be a movie of lame humour.

In fact, it starts of slowly, but as a viewer I really warmed to it and got into the story.  Brilliant, funny, fun, great characters, naff, all the good things, wrapped up in a wonderful soundtrack.  I’ve seen lots of comments on social media commenting that it doesn’t look great, based on seeing the trailer only.  My answer to all is, ‘Do it!’ One not to be missed, I really loved this film.  Go see.

Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes (3D) (12A)

SYNOPSIS:
A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier.  They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.

Dawn of the Planet of the ApesCaesar is back, older, wiser, and with a family of his own, and a shrewdness of apes to look after, including chimpanzees, bonobos, a few gorillas and orang-utans. This time, the apes have set up their own base in the forest, and are doing fine, when they interrupted by humans. Caesar is generous to the humans, but all the apes don’t feel such generosity, including his own son.

The first thing that struck me was how fake Caesar’s fur looked, It may just me my lack of knowledge, but I have never seen an ape with that kind of war like stripping on it’s chest.  That really stuck out to me, and did throughout the film>  I did prefer this film to its predecessor, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, as there was more film of the apes working together, and of course, more action.  Great to see the battles and am looking forward to the next one.

The 100 Year-Old-Man Who Climbed Out The Window And Disappeared (15)

SYNOPSIS:
It all starts on the one-hundredth birthday of Allan Karlsson. Sitting quietly in his room in an old people’s home, he is waiting for the party he-never-wanted-anyway to begin. The mayor is going to be there. The press is going to be there. But, as it turns out, Allan is not…Slowly but surely Allan climbs out of his bedroom window, into the flowerbed (in his slippers) and makes his getaway. And so begins his picaresque and unlikely journey involving criminals, several murders, a suitcase full of cash, and incompetent police. As his escapades unfold, we learn something of Allan’s earlier life in which – remarkably – he helped to make the atom bomb, became friends with American presidents, Russian tyrants, and Chinese leaders, and was a participant behind the scenes in many key events of the twentieth century. This is an adaptation of the Jonas Jonasson book.

100-year-old-manWhat a quirky unexpected surprise of a film. A comedic caper movie where Allan Karlsson makes his way away from the old people’s home and takes us on twist after twist through his back story. Too ridiculous to believe, but just silly enough to have you smiling and laughing all the way through.
